United Way of Santa Barbara County recently held its 2003-2004 Mid-Campaign Report Meeting at Earl Warren Showground. It was chaired by Mike Brown, County Administrator for County of Santa Barbara and Campaign Chair of the 2003-2004 United Way Annual Campaign. Deputy Campaign Chair Henry Dubroff of Pacific Coast Business Times also assisted in the program.

Brown stated, "As the season of giving approaches, it is my pleasure to thank those who have given so much to help our community. Many long hours of planning, creative thought, and hard work has helped to make Santa Barbara County United Way's Annual Campaign successful." To date $818,212, or 28%, has been raised towards our goal of $2,935,000 in total gifts, $240 average gift, and 33% participation. With many campaigns still pending, a high level of giving has already been reached.

Special recognition was presented in several "star" categories. DuPont Displays received the "Rising Star" award for conducting their first United Way campaign, raising $18,961. Alex Roth accepted the award. The "Quasar" award was given to Business First National Bank in recognition of the campaign with the highest increase (333%), with Deborah Shaner accepting the award. "North Star" awards were presented to ABC Clio Incorporated and United Parcel Service. Bill Pellerin and Gerald Hibdon accepted the award for their respective companies.
