United Way of Santa Barbara County recently held its 2003-2004
Mid-Campaign Report Meeting at Earl Warren Showground. It was chaired by
Mike Brown, County Administrator for County of Santa Barbara and
Campaign Chair of the 2003-2004 United Way Annual
Campaign. Deputy Campaign Chair Henry Dubroff of Pacific Coast
Business Times also assisted in the program.
Brown stated, "As the season of giving approaches, it is my pleasure to
thank those who have given so much to help our community. Many long
hours of planning, creative thought, and hard work has helped to make
Santa Barbara County United Way's Annual Campaign successful." To date
$818,212, or 28%, has been raised towards our goal of $2,935,000 in
total gifts, $240 average gift, and 33% participation. With many
campaigns still pending, a high level of giving has already been
reached.
Special recognition was presented in several "star" categories.
DuPont
Displays received the "Rising Star" award for conducting their first
United Way campaign, raising $18,961. Alex Roth accepted the award.
The "Quasar" award was given to Business First National Bank in
recognition of the campaign with the highest increase (333%), with
Deborah Shaner accepting the award.
"North Star" awards were presented to ABC Clio Incorporated and
United
Parcel Service. Bill Pellerin and Gerald Hibdon accepted the award for
their respective companies.

The "Star Light" award for supporting campaign efforts in the
not-for-profit sector was awarded to the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara,
which was accepted by Rick Scott and Jenni-Marie Peterson.
A "Shining Star" for consistent stellar campaign performance was
presented to Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort, which experienced a 133%
increase. Terry White and Breanne Szabados accepted the award.
A "Rock Star" award was given to the corporate leader who performed
outrageous acts to help raise more money in their company campaigns.
Alex Roth of DuPont Displays was recognized in this category.
Successful campaign reports were also given by Superconductor
Technologies, United Cerebral Palsy, Work Inc., Platinum Insurance
Marketing, A.G. Edwards, Santa Barbara City College,
Wells Fargo Bank, NAUTRONIX MariPro Inc., Girls Scouts of Tres Condados, and
County of
Santa Barbara.
The next report meeting will be on Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Fess
Parker's Doubletree Resort.
