Exposition Event at Goleta Union School District

United Way staff members Joel Goforth
and Jeanette Delgado, along with Theresa Weissglass
(Director of Healthy Start programs), attended the Pre-Kindergarten
Exposition at Goleta Union School District on Tuesday, May 12 from 4 -
7p.m. Home Play Learning kits and books were distributed to the children
and families who attended. The attendees were mostly low-income,
Hispanic/Latino parents of 3-5 year old children. Families were
transported to and from the event from five different school locations.
This event was made possible through a First 5 grant.
Joel, Jeanette and Theresa demonstrated to the parents how to use the
Home Play Learning kits with their 3-5 year old children. Parents also
received informational flyers emphasizing the importance of parent
involvement in a child’s educational career from an early age
Overall, the event was quite successful. Children were excited to play with the kits and parents were very
interested to see how the kits worked.
