California Volunteers Voice their Support
for Fun in the Sun-Summer of Service
(FITS-SOS) program
On Thursday, April 15, 2010, United Way of
Santa Barbara County (UWSBC) received personal recognition from Karen
Baker, the Secretary of Service and Volunteering for Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger ‘s Cabinet, for being awarded a prestigious and
competitive $450,000 (over three years) 2010 Summer of Service grant
from the Corporation of National and Community Service-Learn and Serve
America.
In her letter, Baker stresses the importance
of youth involvement in service-learning activities that will impact the
lives of these youth as well as our communities by "creating a culture
of responsibility in our next generation."
UWSBC is excited and is committed to be a part
of this generational change. Through its various children, youth, and
families projects and initiatives, UWSBC will continue to produce
lasting and measurable outcomes for the Santa Barbara County community
for years to come.
