Workplace E-News  November 2007
goleta sanitary districtGoleta Sanitary District Runs Another Successful Campaign

Goleta Sanitary District has just wrapped up its 2007 United Way employee campaign.  This year the Sanitary District increased in overall giving and in participation.  The campaign raised $4,000, up from $2,700 last year and had 27 donors, up from 14 last year.

Employee Campaign Manager Harold Reyes worked to secure donations from a number of local businesses and held a raffle for all participants.  The raffle was conducted during a pot-luck lunch and presentation by the United Way representative.

This is the 21st straight year Harold has volunteered to coordinate the United Way campaign at Goleta Sanitary District.  His volunteer time has gone a long way in helping to change local lives, and United Way is very grateful for his efforts.

In addition to offering financial support, Goleta Sanitary District employees volunteer to take part in the "Lunch Bunch" portion of the Fun in the Sun program every summer.  Sanitary District employees give up their lunch break to act as mentors for low income, homeless, and academically at-risk children served by Fun in the Sun.

Thank you to Harold and the rest of the staff at the Sanitary District!

nordstrom ivypNordstrom: Making A Difference in Our Community

United Way of Santa Barbara County would like to thank Nordstrom for their continued support. In their efforts to raise money they participated in jeans day, silent auctions, bake sales, balloon pop and of course their personal donations.

The United Way representative gave a presentation at their all staff meeting along with the Fun in the Sun site coordinator. They showed their United Way video which brought many people to tears. To lighten the mood the UW rep threw out give a ways to the crowd.

We would also like to thank Lisa McKinley, the campaign manager and Human Resource manager at Nordstrom, for doing such an amazing job coordinating this campaign. Thank you to all the managers for creating such wonderful silent auction prizes and to Valerie Korac, Store Manager, for making it all possible. You all are making a huge difference in our community.

costcoCostco United Way Campaign a Success!

Another great campaign year with Costco! United Way of Santa Barbara would like to thank Kent Wells and Berta Cifuentes for putting together a great campaign.

They provided pizza and ice cream to all employees that participated. Two United Way representatives spent two days at the store to answer any questions the employees had about UW programs.

Employees participated in a raffle. In order to enter, they played a matching game which asked them to pair specific dollar amounts per pay period with the types of services the money would support. For example, $2 dollars per pay period would match 15 calls on a suicide prevention hotline.  The winner received a Starbucks gift card and a coffee mug. It was a learning experience that turned out to be a huge success! Thank you again Costco for all your support.
