Cox Communictions Exceeds Expectations with Campaign
Cox Communications has just finished its 2007 United Way employee campaign. The company held special events to make the campaign fun for employees and surpassed the goal of $40,000. Special events included a raffle, candygrams, a spare change drive, and the first annual "Cox/United Way Bowling Bonanza."
The Bowling Bonanza included eight teams, each one led by a Senior Manager from Cox. Teams competed for a large trophy and had the opportunity to buy $5 "bowling mulligans" to make a bowler from another team wear a costume during their turn, bowl with a boxing glove on, subtract pins from another team's score, etc. In total, more than 60 Cox employees participated in the event.
This year's United Way campaign is another example of Cox's commitment to improve our local community. Each year Cox Communications Santa Barbara donates more than $2,300,000 in cash and in-kind support to more than 100 local educational and non-profit groups in our community. In addition, the spirit of volunteerism is embraced throughout the company by active involvement by
many Cox employees who donate hundreds of hours of personal time and energy to improve the quality of life in our community.
United Way would like to thank this year's Cox/United Way campaign committee. The committee, led by Jennifer Muench, put a great deal of effort into coordinating the various special events. Other committee members included David Edelman, Michael Andrade, Kelly Daugherty, Sophia Davis, Colleen Conway, Lorrie Hayes Harris, Bonnie Kane, Paddy Mullin, Dawn Sproul, Tricia Taylor, Elizabeth Castillo, Terri Wilson, Jeff Zamora, Rob Reihs, and Julie McGovern.

Community West Bank's "Give Even More (GEM)" Campaign a Huge Success
Community West Bank has just wrapped up its 2007 United Way GEM (Give Even More) themed employee campaign. The campaign lasted one week and included many special events such as a kickoff breakfast, multiple casual days, multiple raffles, a mini-golf tournament, a balloon pop, candygrams, a used book/CD/DVD sale, a guess the number of "gems" in the jar, and a Recognition Wall, which allowed customers to buy a GEM to be displayed on the wall with their name.
In total, the campaign raised more than $27,000 for United Ways in Community West's operating area. The total is an increase of more than $4,000 over last year's campaign and will have a significant impact on local communities.
United Way would like to thank this year's Community West/United Way employee campaign committee for their dedication and hard work during this year's campaign. The committee, led by Kitty Ryan, included Beth Burchette, Chris Carney, Elane Vega, Norma Villenueve, Jacqueline Downs, Karren DuBose, Nate Lem, Toni Genardini, Marisol Cruz, Mervlyn Kerr, Kimmy Shively, Lluvia Gallegos, Maria Hunsaker, Betsy Hayden, and Katie Aguilar. Many of the committee members sacrificed personal time to improve the campaign for all Community West employees.
United Way would also like to thank President and CEO Lynda Nahra for her extra efforts during this year's campaign season. Lynda is this year's Community Campaign Co-Chair (Community Campaign Chair for 2007 is Santa Barbara Superintendent Brian Sarvis) and has volunteered her time to help United Way of Santa Barbara County outreach to new businesses and find new sources of funding for United Way programs. Along with her strong personal and corporate support, these efforts will help United Way improve the lives of local children, families, and seniors.

City of Goleta Doubles Campaign & Helps the Community
With the Zaca fires raging, and the office busy with anxious phone calls and meetings, who could have guessed that the City of Goleta could manage to hold a United Way campaign? Not only did the office organize a campaign, they almost oubled their total pledges! Employees raised almost $6,400, up from a little more than $3,300 last year.
A presentation was held at their all staff meeting, along with a raffle for some giveaways. United Way supporters encouraged their co-workers to follow in their stead by giving to an effectual organization, and also urged the group to get involved in Day of Caring.
On September 15th, City of Goleta volunteers showed up to give their time toward "beautifying" Dos Pueblos High School along with Goleta Valley Beautiful. Thank you, City of Goleta, for your excellent work, in not only strengthening this community with your money, but also with your valuable time!
